BRR - September
Ok so this was the final BRR of the year of which i chose to crew for a change as the last two september events sucked. I also managed to get my crew from dumnonni to turn up and experience a different Larp System.
The event itself seemed pretty kool, and i think it suited the fact that there was a low number of players. It was pretty much dog soldiers BRR WITH US CREW BEING DEGENERATE WILD MEN who could not be killed. It does amuse me a little that both crew and players tend to want more fighting from the system but are often denied it. But this is a purposely chosen trait of BRR. It is not a fight fight fight system so if your not prepared for long moments nothing and short bursts of fighting then dont go to the system instead of dropping out of character to moan about it.
The feed back that i got from my crew was a mixture of bordom and frustration at not being able to GET IN THERE and have a good pagga encounter. They felt a bit insulted by some of the explanations on differences between BRR and Dumnonni, especially a comment "BRR is a higher standard of roleplaying than Dumnonni". They came across as very condescending comments.
But the crew did a great job none the less and were in their element during what may have been the most memorable BRR battle for a while. The afternoon battle around the barracades was fast and exciting and we gave the players some fantastic moments of action. Malcolm got in some great fights after cornering a target. I got satisfyingly shot off the barracade. Kern shot me in the head with an arrow as i was being pulled back by my fellow crew. The lads knew they had to give a good fight while also not over running the players, but with the added rule that they should not get killed which added an extra element to consider, and i think they did an amazing job. They are an amazing bunch and this did no go un-noticed as Paul at the end commented on how he was surprised and enjoyed how the new crew got stuck into the battle and made it so memorable, RESULT.
From what i got from some of the Players, they enjoyed the event also. I've still yet to talk to some of them, but Erik and Jasper seemed to have lots of fun with there new characters with both of them at seperate moments legging it into the woods to escape the crew and the rest of the players anger, so so funny, brilliant. Matt nearly got blown up in what sounded like a really dangerous situation. Thorkeld also i think had a good event which maybe his last one as Thorkeld, which im glad he had the opertunity to have. Malcolm had to take a few mins out after being bundled by crew but i think he got he fare share of action. The encounter with the bandits in the woods was also classic as both groups competed to barter for various people and things. And Kern was the best scout BRR has ever had, until his luck ran out saturday night and became a eunuch. All the players were kool, I look forward to teaming up with them next year.
And yes there is next year, and i do plan to return to play BRR as granger. It's not Dumnonni, and its not fighty fighty heros stuff, but its still a game i want to be involved with, and hopefully my crew will go next year also.
